Fake vs. Authentic Part II: True Religion Jeans - 2007 Styles

by DenimAddict

Here is a 2nd part of the TR Auth guide for 2007 styles, quality and materials still hold true in all models. First, lets start with whats new pockets, buttons, tags, and belt tags. Here is a picture of the new inner tag this tag is for both men and women (as opposed to buddah for men and horseshoe for women) Familiarize your selfs with the cursive font, in addition notice how the “J” in “Brand Jeans” now instead of dipping it sits slightly above the other letters.

******NEW POCKET DESIGN*******

As you can see, the new pockets have a distinct overlapping in the horseshoe with triangles. The Horseshoes still have a curve at the beginning of the hooks, also the horseshoes fill the pockets. Next we will look at some fakes.

Fake #1

Fake #2

-In the first fake you can notice how the horseshoe is made of 2 equilateral triangles, in both the real pairs the triangle is not and also in the first fake the hooks of the horseshoe are straight. Also note the way the horseshoe does not fit the pocket. Overall, the “leather” belt tag looks obviously like plastic, stitching looks terrible and look at the wash!

-In the 2nd fake the horseshoe looks more improved, but as always they make mistakes, compare with Real #2, notice how the horseshoe ends right before reaching the pocket. Also the hooks once again are not curved downwards!

*****Painted Pockets*****

Real #2

One of my personal favorites painted pockets feature painted horseshoes that are made to look as the they were done quickly with several gaps in the paint especially at the ends, notice how the ends look somewhat feathery and jagged? However these new horseshoes still fill the pockets as usual. For women there is a new pocket flap design as can be seen on real #1, note the round flaps instead of the old style flaps? For mens the pockets are still in the traditional Joey/Billy flap, however there are styles in Bobby no flap as well. One important fact, all mens will have leather patches, no cloth patches!!!

Fake #2

-Fake #1, notice the too defined ends of the horseshoes? If thats not enough compare how the horseshoe fills the pockets with Real #1, note how low the paint goes?

-Fake #2, First the pockets don’t have the proper and distinct curve that TR flaps have. Also where is the leather patch?? Lastly the painted horseshoes do not line up with the flaps and are too clean at the ends.
*****Heritage Pockets*****

Another style of pocket that has been released often referred to as the “boob” pocket is the Heritage pocket design which features an elongated horseshoe and completely new hardware.

Real #1                                                         Fake #1

Joey/Billy pocket design: First note how the curved flap on the pockets still applies, while on the fake it has a dramatic curve. Also on the fake check out the hideous stitching and how emaciated the horseshoe is!! Also look at the hardware…not the new style hardware instead it looks like the traditional hardware.

*Now we will look at the no flap horseshoes and the horseshoe underneath the flaps, sorry if it gets confusing.

Real #1 (Under the flap)                                         Real #2

Fake #2

Note on the no flap real #2 (Bobby style) how the horseshoe hooks are straight and stubby, be aware that this never applies to traditional horseshoes or the “triangle” horseshoes!! The wing of the horseshoe should be exactly 1/8th of an inch from the side of the pocket!! Note how the fake is literally has no space and is lined haphazardly!

*****50’s Style*****

This style is personally not my favorite at all, but they come in some killer washes. These are designed to look old with misshaped horseshoes. These also have new hardware and a new pocket leather tag.

image coming soonimage coming soon

Real #1                                                     Fake #1

-Note that on the real pockets the horseshoe should be completely symmetrical. Also the flaps should sit in the middle of the pocket not completely covering it. Note on the fake the flap goes to far left. Also the hooks (beginnings of the horseshoes) should be arcs, note on the fake they are just straight.

^ Here are a few of the 2007 patches for men (right) and women (left), note on the upper right (mens) there is a “lot” and “w” <—They will never have numbers after!!
Lastly remember that the patches will never be perfect rectangles!!

Hope this guide is helpful if you have any questions please post comments and I will reply as soon as possible! :-)

    Hi MonkeyBusiness

I posted my questions in the wrong thread … so here we go again …

If you get a chance, could you have a look at these:
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Clothing/Womenswear/Jeans-trousers-shorts/Size-10/auction-251556847.htm
They’ve got the curving in the back pocket flaps + coin pocket flap, the micro-stitching on the inner tag, the right style number, the horseshoe looks right (I think), but the buddha on the pocket lining is perhaps a bit pale + the seller did not answer my question about authenticity (and at least one of their other listings looks to be fake), so I’m still not sure …
    Thanks heaps!!

PS — you were absolutely right about the other pair I had asked you about … the seller had used stock images from a shop + I ended up with a fake :-( So I’m trying to be extra careful now …

i want to buy a pair of jeans from this site but i can’t tell if they’re real or not. Are they authentic?

    MonkeyBusiness Says:

    Hey again the.other,
They certainly look ‘better’, though I couldn’t quite say for sure from those photos (the distressing looks very symmetrical across both legs) but they don’t scream ‘fake!’ like some of the ones I’ve seen. The in-seam stitching is always the killer, as shown in the other TR thread on this site - it may be worth asking for some photos of that.
Sorry to hear about the other pair you bought, but if you keep them, you do at least have a nice reference tool for the future!
Let me know how you get on with this pair!

  4. 254
    MonkeyBusiness Says:

    Hi courtney,
That’s definitely a fake site, unfortunately. The products they show on their site are real, because they ‘borrow’ the images from genuine sites, but the products you receive will be fakes (and probably bad fakes, too).
    Please, don’t be tempted!

    Courtney Says:

Thank you so much for you response. I did some other research and contacted the True Religion site and they too, said that they are NOT, in any way, associated with the site. Man…that is truly crazy that someone can build a site that looks EXACTLY like the real TR site and sell fakes from it. Just crazy! they should be shut down. They also have an “live-chat” on that site and i asked them if they sold “authentic” TR jeans and they said yes, but they were probably just saying yes that their authentic “jeans” and the English in the live chat was terrible! Thanks so much for you help. it’s great to know you’re out there to help the consumers.

  6. 256
    MonkeyBusiness Says:

You’re welcome Courtney, glad to hear that you didn’t buy anything from them!
It’s unlikely that you’ll ever find heavily discounted genuine TR jeans… Generally speaking, I’ve only ever seen the less popular styles and washes on sale and rarely with more than 15-25% off the usual price.
If it looks too good to be true, it usually is!

  7. 257
    the.other Says:

    Hi MonkeyBusiness
me again … they sold for $220 — at that price I wasn’t going to take the risk, so the hunt continues ,,, wish me luck :o)
    THANKS!!

I bought these jeans before educating myself…the inside tag says “design in USA” instead of “made in USA”, and the Buddha’s on the inside are faded. And getting them at only $40…well, should I send these back?? He does have a 7 day return policy and I just got them yesterday.
Love this forum…wish I would have looked for it sooner!!

    malli252 Says:

Here is a link to a list that True Religion has put together of sites that sell fakes. I’m sure it’s missing a few sites but it’ll definitely give everyone a better idea of which sites to avoid. One think I always look for in a website as well is correct spelling/grammar. I see poor english, especially on the “About Us” page and I’m outta there!

    ADDERB Says:

I went to http://truereligionjeans-sale.com and spoke to the live chat it was very scripted and they kept saying that they are 100% authentic and they buy less to turnover more, which is why they are cheaper. They are not on the original TR website hit list, so I dunno.. anyone buy a pair from them yet?

  19. 269
    David Says:

Hi, I’m thinking about buying a pair of TR’s from a coworker that got a pair from ebay, which don’t fit. After doing research, I’m kind of suspect of them. The first three pictures are my main causes for concern. The leather patch on the back is leather and looks different than most TR patches. In the second pic, its the pocket buddhas, which are dark colored. Third, the inside tag is sewn on and it cuts a lot of the True Religion off of the tag. The tag behind that, with the horseshoe emblem on it does have the silver stitching, however, it’s slightly on the backside of the tag as opposed to the bottom of the front.

Please let me know so I can decide whether or not to buy these!

Hi. I was watching these on ebay and was skeptical about their authenticity using the “if too good then probably is theory”…but…I bid and got caught up a bit in the competition of the bidding and won and received them today. After receiving them I noticed that they passed a lot of the “real checks” listed on this site but the one thing I have found that worries me that I was scammed is the buddhas on the outside of the pockets are not bright vibrant red but are faded and there is pilling on the pockets. Can you take a look at this item number and let me know if you think they are fakes? If you cannot tell from the ebay item listing pictures then I can try to send you some more pictures. Thank you for your time and consideration. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250572387785&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

    nic perrotta Says:

LISTEN UP FOLKS! Regarding returns to eBay sellers YOU CAN RETURN AN ITEM UP TO 45 DAYS AFTER THE AUCTION END if you pay via PayPal & pay within 7 days & there are one or two other requirements like you have to be confirmed or something like that. I’m an eBay seller but I found out about this when I bought a camera from a seller that offered a 7 day return policy. They didn’t answer my email within 7 days so i filed a dispute with PayPal (I think eBay handles them now). Once the seller responded PayPal said I had to send the item back at my expense & provide tracking info. You have 7 or 10 days to comply. Once the item is sent back the seller must refund & sometimes PayPal up & takes themoney from their acct & shoots it your way.
BOTTOM LINE: Even if the seller says ‘no returns period’, if you rcv a fake item or anything ‘not as described’ you can file a dispute with PayPal as long as you meet the requirements which are very basic. I’ve seen it happen many times & the buyer always wins. (unless the buyer is being less than honest or you miss a deadline)

I tried searching the RN and CA number after my friend (who used to work at a Metro Park) was curious about the authenticity of the jeans. The jeans DO have microstitching, but I can barely read what the stitching even says. I emailed the seller and he said the jeans are “Texas Johns”..which I’ve never heard of (I’ve heard of TEXAS JACKS..)..So can someone give me more info? Thanks.
